“NO/ON” 2025
A constant in my works is the simulation of materials (both natural and artificial), a sort of sedimentation and layering of matter, which together with signs, traces and fragments refer to symbols and graphisms evocative of remote and/or unconscious memories. In this work (made with a mixed technique on board that at first glance represents and pictorially simulates a rusty metal sheet with two bullet holes) the pictorial matter and texture, present on the surface, allow us to glimpse and ‘recognise’ signs, shapes and places that inhabit our exterior and interior landscape.
The title of the work NO/ON (nothing but the extremes of NOWEAPON) are opposing, but also specular terms that disarmingly underline the fragility and weakness of the various appeals and actions aimed at a drastic reduction of armaments and conflicts. A juxtaposition that reveals a sense of disorientation and bewilderment; a situation of continuous drifting from one’s own non-place towards possible non-places, both physical and mental.
