The sculpture ‘Original Rifle‘ is made from assembled materials. The central part is plaster, cast in a flexible neoprene mold. Once hardened, the fabric is peeled away, leaving scars from the seams. A delicate glass condenser serves as the rifle’s barrel.
The fabric printed with “original” reflects the human desire to be unique and invulnerable. In reality, weapons make you vulnerable, offering only the illusion of power. A flower emerges from the barrel, symbolizing: “make love, not war.”Suzanne de Graaf works and lives in Amsterdam. Since 1995, she has been creating artworks described as autonomous creatures. She studied sculpture at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. In her studio, she works in isolation from the outside world. Suzanne regularly exhibits in galleries and shows.
