“1980-2024“
From multiplex wood a tower from 300 cm high. On top is placed an old bird cage. Instead of a bird, a card is placed in it with the text “Reserviert für die Freiheit”: Reserved for Freedom. The cage with text was made in 1980 by Jockel Heenes( 2004), a German friend. This heritage I became after he died. And this year I finished this sculpture as an artist. As artists, we worked together from 1978 till 2004.
Henk Wijnen was born in Asten, North Brabant, grew up in ‘s Hertogenbosch and gained his knowledge at several academies. At the Jan van Eijck Akademie, he worked in the experimental department from 1977 to 1979.
Wijnen exhibited frequently at home and abroad. Many times in Germany where he is and was connected through collaborations with other artists and museum directors. Besides his active autonomous work, he has had collaborations with several artists over the years.
Among others, with Jockel Heenes from 1978 to 2004 and with Martyn Last from 2006 to 2016.
Monument-of-Mankind (MOM), a group portrait gallery, is a long-term collaboration with Wim van Sijl.
