The still frame is taken from their video performance, Mascara Cartridge Déjà War – protagonist a woman surprised by a war, therefore busy with the bare surviving but collaterally theorizing a female surviving manual embracing gimmicks others than arms or a joy division. In the shortage of making up alternative methods, she eventually comes up with contriving a blank cartridge belt made from mascara sticks as a memento for not using stupid capitalistic cliché and set phrases like “make-up weapons” in time of peace. In assembling it, she is nostalgic about a time when she had time to wear the mascara enjoying that lightsome gesture.
“The world is an enduring war theatre
of This Is a Mens’s World a spectre.
When cast into such a set a woman
sees in everything a bad omen,
everywhere watchmen, flagmen, badmen, bowmen,
and she doesn’t lack acumen,
says everyday amen,
offers cyclamen for the dead of that regimen.”
