Andrea Colombu was born in Cagliari in 1973.
He attended the ‘Foiso Fois’ State Art Lyceum in Cagliari.
After graduating, he moved to Perugia in the mid-1990s,
where he attended the ‘Pietro Vannucci’ Academy of Fine Arts.
His first works date from that decade and the initial themes that characterise them are strongly influenced by gestural painting and are inspired by artistic movements such as Informal Art.
While formal research pushes him into the study of the purest geometries, the contamination of conceptual art leads him to embrace the idea of symbolic content.
The last years of the decade saw him fully experiment with materials. Paper, stone, iron, coal
chalk and ink.
In 2000, he abandoned using materials to tackle new techniques and compositional processes, such as photography and vector graphics, often supported by drawing.
Everyday processes that take on a meditative and
introspective character in the observation of contemporary society.
